DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A busy road is back open after being shut down for 16 hours Wednesday due to a sinkhole.
On Wednesday, dozens of workers spent the day repairing a sinkhole on Buford Highway near Briarwood Road in Brookhaven.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials said a contractor working on a sidewalk enhancement project hit a sewer line late Tuesday, causing the running water to create the sinkhole.
While crews were repairing the sinkhole, residents in the area spent the day walking from apartment complexes where cars couldn’t come or go.

Student Malik Amusa told WSB Tonight’s Candace McCowan that he had to walk several additional blocks to find his bus.
“We have to take another bus to take us to school, and we had to wait for a long time,” Amusa said.
In addition to residents in the area, businesses were hurt during the road closure.

“It’s been really sad, bad whatever you can name it, because of the street; we were almost dead business today, especially you can see there’s no one here,” Siful Shoeal said.
Officials confirmed that no one was injured, and the sinkhole was repaired.
