DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A local family says a storm pipe installed by DeKalb County crews caused a huge hole to open up in their front yard. However, the county says the homeowner is responsible.
“You can’t even stand around it or everything will cave,” Kayla Muldrow told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington.

Muldrow and her family say back in September, the hole in the front yard was rather small. Today, the hole is about 8-feet-wide and 5-feet-deep. She says Dekalb County crews installed a storm drainpipe, that pipe broke, and then created the hole.
When it rains, the situation is even worse. According to Muldrow, the rainwater pours into the hole and floods the yard.

“They told us it is their problem and that they are going to fix it. Then, they sent paperwork to our house telling us this issue is no longer their problem,” Muldrow said. “It’s personal, private property, but it was a drainpipe installed by them.”
Kayla’s mother got an estimate to repair the hole independently.
The price tag? A whopping $25,660.

Channel 2 called county officials. In a statement, they said they went through the plot and determined that the drainage system in question is on private property.
“The developer installed all stormwater infrastructure, including the pipe in question. Because the drainage system is on private property, the homeowner was referred to the DeKalb Citizen’s Drainage Program,” the county said.
