One member of the group said his bill was more than $1,100 for one day.

The people who spoke with Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus said the amount of water they're using is not reflected in their bills.

Brooks Copeland says his latest water bill was shocking, especially since his normal bill is around $100.

"Extremely elevated. This month is almost $2,200," Copeland said about his bill.

Klaus stopped by Copeland's house in Decatur on Monday. He opened his meter and realized it was running.

"It scares me to think what my next water bill's going to be," Copeland told Klaus.

Copeland joined the Unbelievable DeKalb Water Bills Facebook group.

Nancy Aroneck, of Brookhaven, is also a member.

"I got a bill for almost $1,000 and have debated with the county and just said this couldn't be right," Aroneck told Klaus.

She's argued for more than a year, and she has also hired a plumber to check for leaks and gotten a new meter.

"Every morning, I wake up. It is scary when I turn the faucets on. Because I'm not even sure they're going to tell me that I've been disconnected," Aroneck said.

A DeKalb County representative told Klaus there are several issues, with both the meters and the billing.

Klaus contacted Sensus, the company that makes the meters.

The company sent her a statement that reads, "We are proactively working with any impacted customers to address specific concerns."

Copeland said the county has a responsibility to make things right.

"I just want a fair bill," Copeland said.

Copeland will have a chance to share his thoughts later this week at a town hall meeting scheduled for Thursday night.
