Residents told Channel 2 Action News they were advised that the fire started in the back of one of the upper units.

Billy Jackson said he lives in the apartment below the unit that initially caught fire.

He said the fire was so intense that he had to run for his life.

“I heard a loud noise and then all of a sudden, smoke just started coming from everywhere. And then people came and started saying, ‘Get out of the apartment, get out of the apartment.’” Jackson explained. “I could only get out with what I got on. No shoes, no clothes, wallet, keys, everything left inside.”
