Day care concerns for a mother in one county

DEKALB COUNTY — Samoura Lewis something didn't seem right when an employee at her 2-year-old's day care told her at pickup time that this mark and swelling were from another child biting little Samiyah.

"It just didn't sit right with me," Lewis said. "And that's why I took her to the hospital."

She says her concerns only grew last Thursday when she says a case worker and a doctor said that doesn't look like a bite at all.

"She said it was bruising to the arm. That it had been taken up like this, maybe pinched really hard."

So the mother took her concerns to Lillie's Lil Lamb day care in Ellenwood, where she was shown a video. But she says the images were blurry and the reported time of the incident didn't match up with the time stamp on the clip she was shown.

"No one is answering my questions. I'm just lost," Lewis said. "I have all these unanswered questions and no one can answer them for me."

She withdrew her baby and filed a cruelty to children case with DeKalb County police.

Channel 2's Carl Willis spoke with the owners of the day care. They're sticking to the incident report, but say they're still looking into the incident and waiting on a technician to help them clear up the surveillance video.

"If it's not a bite mark, then what happened?" Lewis asked.

According to the day care owners, they just don't have the evidence to take action.

They say they have not been contacted by state investigators.

"I just want to get the truth, and I feel that it's being covered," Lewis said.
