DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A judge will decide whether or not the owner of a Stone Mountain child care facility will be able to appeal her day care's revoked license.
The decision is expected Wednesday.
Channel 2's Jade Hernandez caught up with Thomasenia Edwards outside the DeKalb County Courthouse. She wants her child care facility license back. For years, she owned and operated "Welcome All Afterschool Learning and Fun Spot" in Stone Mountain.
Edwards told Hernandez, "Children are definitely safe. We haven't had any issues with that."
Recently, Georgia's Department of Early Care and Learning fined the facility after a driver failed to check whether parents were home at drop-off and left children inside the van when she went inside to pay.
The agency's director says the center also didn't have liability insurance and even continued to operate after it was shut down in the fall. In fact, inspectors found children at the facility yesterday.
Channel 2 attended today's hearing, where both sides stood before Judge Cynthia Beck at the DeKalb County Courthouse.
She says she wanted time to review the case and says she'll have a decision by Wednesday morning.
