DEA busts mobile meth lab on I-85

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Drug Enforcement Administration busted a mobile meth lab on I-85 near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Channel 2's Craig Lucie found the scene while driving to another story Wednesday afternoon.

Federal agents say the mobile meth lab was carring more than 20 pounds of liquid meth.

The D.E.A. got a tip that someone was transporting meth through metro Atlanta using a Greyhound bus.

No one on the Greyhound bus would claim the bag, since it was sitting in the cargo area underneath the bus.

Agents say when they can get large quantities of meth off the street, it's a victory for parents who don't want their children to have access to the dangerous drug.

"Easily over a hundred thousand dollars, it just depends on if its cut," said D.E.A. Agent John Murphy. "Being in liquid we don't exactly what it'd convert to, but mostly 12-24 pounds of meth."

Investigators say if the bottles seized from the Greyhound bus was acetone, passengers were in serious danger.

"You have these major Mexican organizations who manufacture it down in Mexico, which is an explosive process, then they suspend it in liquid," said Muphy. "Water is less dangerous than acetone, but if you suspend it in acetone then its flammable."

Federal investigators are working to figure out who put that suspicious bag on that Greyhound bus.
