County-by-county: School districts provide free lunches for students

ATLANTA — Atlanta Public Schools - UPDATE:

APS has received approval to open more sites for distribution of emergency student meals and to run some food routes using the District’s buses. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, APS will open the following five additional anchor sites that will provide service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday:

Booker T. Washington High School. Hope-Hill Elementary School, King Middle School, Thomasville Heights Elementary School and Young Middle School.

Those five schools join five existing distribution sites:

Bunche Middle School, Cleveland Avenue Elementary School, Douglass High School, Phoenix Academy and Sylvan Hills Middle School.

Additionally on Wednesday, APS will begin food distribution on all middle school bus routes in the following clusters: Therrell, South Atlanta, Washington, Jackson, Mays, Douglass and Carver Cluster. A full list of those food delivery stops and times may be found here.

Starting March 23, families, APS families can also pick up a bag of groceries at any of those five locations once a week. APS partner GOODR will also provide ready-to-eat-meals at Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry and Loaves and Fishes St. John the Wonderworker Parish.

Athens-Clarke County Schools:

The CCSD will provide free meals for students beginning Tuesday, March 17. Meals will be available for pick up at two locations (Hilsman Middle and Oglethorpe Ave. Elem) and delivered to select neighborhoods via school bus (along existing bus routes).

Meals will be available for pickup between 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the following locations:

Hilsman Middle School – 870 Gaines School Rd, Athens, GA 30605
Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School – 1150 Oglethorpe Ave, Athens, GA 30606

Barrow County School System:

Weekdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Barrow County School System Nutrition Staff will be at Apalachee High School (behind the school by the stadium) and Winder-Barrow High School (front of the school by cafeteria) preparing and distributing Grab-N-Go bags containing breakfast AND lunch for any child under the age of 18.

We understand that not all families can bring their children to our two high school sites to pick up Grab-N-Go bags each weekday. We are so thankful that a number of community organizations and individuals have asked if they can help deliver to neighborhoods, apartments and individual families.

Families can now sign up to have meals delivered if they are unable to get to these two locations. If you need meals delivered to your child or children (anyone under the age of 18), please visit the website bit.ly/BCSSmeals to sign up.

We do have limited volunteers so if you have the ability to pick-up at our two schools, please do so. That will enable us to support students with the greatest need.

We also ask for your patience as we work through the logistics of this new initiative. After you submit a response, there might be a day or two delay while we coordinate delivery. While we are doing our best to provide delivery, we cannot guarantee this is possible in every instance. We are relying on our community volunteers.

Bartow County School System:

We understand many of our families rely on meals provided by Bartow County Schools. During this long-term closure, meal service options will be provided to all families. Additional information on this will be forthcoming.

Carroll County School District:

Meal service will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for each child that chooses to receive meals from our program.

Meals will be delivered along the regularly scheduled bus routes but later in the day. A call will be sent out on Monday from transportation letting children know what time to expect the bus to be in their area for delivery.

Cherokee County Public Schools

Our School Nutrition department has applied with the State to provide to-go meals to our neediest schools. We will communicate with eligible families as soon as possible. Clayton County Public Schools -- UPDATE:

The district will serve grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meals at 21 sites starting Wednesday. Students can now pick up both breakfast and lunch between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the following sites:

Church Street Elementary, Fountain Elementary, Huie Elementary, King Elementary, Lee Street Elementary, Lovejoy High, Morrow Middle, Mt. Zion High, Pointe South Elementary, Tara Elementary, West Clayton Elementary, Edmonds Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Lake Ridge Elementary, Eddie White Academy, Rex Mill Middle, Kendrick Middle School, North Clayton Middle, Forest Park High, Mundy’s Mill High and Riverdale High.

Mobile food pantries will also be available on March 20th at 4 p.m. at Forest Park Middle School and March 27 at 9 a.m. at King Elementary.

Grocery services through the Atlanta Food Bank will also be available every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Huie Elementary, King Elementary, Lovejoy High, Tara Elementary and West Clayton Elementary.

Cobb County Schools:

The district is partnering with MUST Ministries to provide food for students. Family food boxes will be distributed soon. Learn more HERE. https://www.mustministries.org/

Coweta County School System:

The school district will offer free breakfast and lunch starting Tuesday on a drive-through basis at the following locations between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.:

Newnan High School, Arnco-Sargent Elementary School, Ruth Hill Elementary School, Jefferson Parkway Elementary School, Smokey Road Middle School, Winston Dowdell Academy and East Coweta High School.

Dawson County Schools:

Meals will be delivered through county bus routes. Buses will leave schools at 10:30 a.m. and hope to have all meals delivered at each stop by 11:30 a.m. Kids will get a lunch and breakfast for the next morning.

DeKalb County Schools -- UPDATE:

The district expanded to 30 meal distribution locations and said it will also begin bus distribution.

All DCS student can get a free bagged lunch daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following schools and recreation centers:

John R. Lewis Elementary School, Avondale Elementary School, Stepensen Middle School, Freedom Middle School, Miller Grove Middle School, Peachcrest Elementary School, Cedar Grove Elementary School, Cross Keys High School, Sequoyah Middle School, Idlewood Elementary School, Tucker Middle School, Lithonia High School, Marbut Elementary School, Clarkston High School, Jolly Elementary School, Chapel Hill Middle School, Narvie J. Harris Elementary School, Bethune Middle School, Canby Lane Elementary School, McNair Middle School, Early Learning Center, Gresham Recreation, Exchange Intergenerational, Redan Recreation, Tobie Grant RC, N.H. Scott RC, Lucious Sanders RC, Mason Mill RC, Hamilton RC and Midway RC.

The district announced Tuesday they will also add school bus deliveries for students in neighborhoods beginning March 23.

Douglas County School System:

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, meals for children ages 0-18 will be distributed at the following high schools: Alexander, Chapel Hill, Douglas County, Lithia Springs and New Manchester High Schools. Douglas County School Nutrition will distribute breakfast and lunch for five days for children every Wednesday until school resumes. Children must be present in the car to receive the meals.

Fayette County School District:

Families can drive up to pick up meals between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. this week a Spring Hill Elementary School and North Fayette Elementary School.

Fannin County Schools:

Beginning Wednesday, March 18th, the school system will provide school meals to Fannin County children ages 1-18 at various pick-up points across the county. Students must be present to pick up the meal. All food will be served cold and in individual servings to keep it safe from spoiling.

Families can pre-order meals and designate a pick-up point if possible. Submitting this form will help us as we try to plan how many meals should be delivered to each location. This will also help us identify any families who would like meals for their children but who do not have transportation to one of the drop-off locations.

Fayette County School System:

The Real Life Center in Tyrone is doing a drive through only food pantry. Bring a form of documentation to show proof of residency in Fayette County. 9-12 Monday-Thursday and 5-7 Thursday.

Any child (18 and under) is eligible and must be present in order for the meals to be provided (students with disabilities age 21 and under are also eligible to participate).

Please stay in your car and the meals will be passed through based on the number of children in the car. Meals are for pick-up only and cannot be consumed on site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 (coronavirus) by not congregating at the distribution site once meals have been distributed.

Floyd County Schools:

Beginning Monday, March 16th, FCS Child Nutrition Department will provide meal opportunities free of charge to school-age children during the COVID-19 school closures. The child *must* be present to receive their food. Meals will be available for pickup on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the following locations: Alto Park Elementary•Armuchee High•Cave Spring Elementary•Garden Lakes Elementary•Model High•Pepperell High •Ridge Ferry Park•The Envision Center on Division Street•Dutch Gardens•Restoration Rome

Forsyth County Schools:

From Monday through Friday, families can pick up free meals on the campuses of Sawnee Elementary School and Whitlow Elementary School from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Students must be present. The district will provide lunch and breakfast for the following day.

Fulton County Schools:

Families can drive through and pick up meals for children and their family members at these six schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday:

Lake Forest Elementary School, Mimosa Elementary School, Haynes Bridge Middle School, Tri-Cities High School, Banneker High School, and Langston Hughes High School.

Gordon County Schools:

Details about school nutrition services will be communicated as soon as possible.

Gwinnett County Schools:

68 schools will provide lunch for pick-up for kids 18 and under from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through March 20.

In addition, school buses will deliver meals at bus stops between 11 a.m. and noon in the following clusters-- Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Discovery, Meadowcreek, Norcross, Shiloh, and South Gwinnett-- and for the following schools-- Alcova ES, Arcado ES, Berkeley Lake ES, Chesney ES, Duluth MS, Harris ES, Jackson ES, Knight ES, Lovin ES, McKendree ES, Northbrook MS, and Sycamore ES. The buses will be making stops at their regular bus stops between 11 a.m. and noon.

The Hall County School District will provide breakfast and lunch for all students on our bus routes, once a day, beginning Monday, March 16th. These meals are free. Both breakfast and lunch will be delivered together during this once-a-day delivery. Routes will begin at 8:15 a.m. and most should be completed by 9 a.m. If your children require meals, please wait at their designated bus stop to receive delivery. Hall County School District families may also drive through any elementary school between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, to pick up student meals.

Haralson County Schools:

We will also offer drop off meals at the following locations on Tuesdays and Fridays:

Lamar County Schools:

All children 3-18 can pick up a breakfast/lunch from 11-12 beginning this Wednesday. They must be present.

Lumpkin County Schools:

We know that an important service provided by our schools each day is providing meals for students. This need continues when school is not in session.

We are fortunate for the LC School Nutrition Department to have partners including Lumpkin County Family Connection, Community Helping Place, Head Start, and Dahlonega Country Day Academy to identify families in need and to help coordinate efforts today as we prepare for next week.

Today, system employees teamed to collect all perishable food items at our schools and transport them to our Student Outreach Center at LCMS. Food boxes this week will now include milk, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and yogurt which would have otherwise perished during our closure. To request a meal click here.

Marietta City Schools

Marietta City Schools is providing both breakfast and lunch to all MCS students 18 years old and under. Students must be present to receive meals. We will continue to provide healthy meals Monday-Friday at 81 sites (including all of our schools and central office) along 18 routes throughout our district for the duration of the school closures. Morgan County Schools:

School meal service will be available for pick-up at the high school, middle school, Buckhead Baptist Church, or Rutledge Baptist Church, Monday through Friday, March 16th - 20th, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Newton County Schools:

Our school system completed an application to the Georgia Department of Education (GDOE) to continue to provide meals to children during this unanticipated school closure due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The GDOE school nutrition team is working to approve these applications in an expedited manner and understands we would like to begin providing meal service (breakfast and lunch) no later than Wednesday, March 18, 2020. As soon as we are approved, locations and times will be publicized.

Paulding County Schools:

The Paulding County School District will distribute “Lunch To Go” bags from 10 a.m. until noon at three locations beginning March 18:

Rockdale County Schools

RCPS will deliver meals on weekdays starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020 to children age 18 and under in Rockdale County neighborhoods while school buildings are closed during the Independent Learning Days. Meals will be delivered between 10:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. via RCPS school bus. Look for the bus and listen for the horn! Be sure to let the lunch bus know of any food allergies. Meals must be picked up at one of the delivery locations (not at Heritage High or Salem High, where the meals are prepared) and must be picked up by the child or with a child present. Spalding-Griffin Schools

On Wednesday, March 18, 2020 the Griffin-Spalding County School System will provide 3-day meal packages for pick up at no cost to GSCS students and children within the community 18 years or younger, between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Anne Street, Atkinson, Cowan Road and Futral Road elementary schools. Meals will also be provided to children with special needs that are 21 years old and under.
