Dansby Swanson immortalized in new mural in his native Marietta

MARIETTA, Ga. — It’s safe to say the Marietta community is proud of their hometown kid, Dansby Swanson, after he helped the Braves bring home the World Series.

A new mural depicting Swanson was put up just a few weeks ago on the Marietta Square.

“Right now, we’re celebrating the Braves and we’re so proud. So proud,” one Braves fan visiting the mural told Channel 2 anchor Justin Wilfon.

Just a day after Swanson and the Braves won the first World Series for Atlanta since 1995, plenty of proud Marietta residents visited the mural to snap a photo with their hometown hero.

“That’s just a dream right there. I know he’s living it. And I know that all of us are so proud to be from Marietta and that he’s from Marietta,” another fan told Wilfon.

The mural went up just as the Braves’ playoff run was getting under way, and many folks in Marietta say it could have been Swanson’s good luck charm.

“Oh yeah we’re hoping that’s what it was. We’re going to lay claim to it anyway,” a fan said.

Wilfon caught up with Ivann Garc, the artist, in Tennessee, who said he painted the mural while at a festival in Marietta in October.

“Everyone was so happy. I was impressed how everyone loves him,” Garc said.

Garc did tell Wilfon he felt a ton of pressure to get one of fans’ favorite parts of Swanson right.

“Did you put a lot of effort in to make sure you got his hair right?” Wilfon asked.

“Yes, I was trying to do that!” Garc replied.

Garc says he hasn’t heard what Swanson himself thinks of the mural, but knows his family has seen it, so he’s hoping to get the man of the hour’s review himself.
