“There were a couple bridges and the causeway closed,” said Brunswick resident Paula Dowling.

Dowling said she weathered the storm inside her home on Thursday. She’s thankful her house didn’t sustain any damage.

“I had a tree fall on my house before, so I had a little PTSD,” Dowling said.

During the height of the storm, Washington spoke with the chief engineer of Jekyll Island about erosion concerns.

“I know that we have probably lost about 10 to 12 feet of the dune system so far,” said Mark Webb.

Brunswick police said there wasn’t too much real damage in the area, but it will still take time to rebuild.

Still, Dowling said she was shocked by the late season storm.

“Yes, absolutely, I was surprised,” said Dowling.

Others were shocked, but not as worried about the storm.

Woodrow Ellis said he has lived in the area his whole life.

“It is what it is, now I don’t have to water my grass, look at that. That you Jesus!,” he said.
