CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County deputies are investigating the death of an infant girl.
The 3-week-old was found unresponsive at a home on Alex Street on Monday morning, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies attempted CPR on the child, but she was pronounced dead at the Northside Cherokee Hospital.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday, but the results are not yet available. Deputies said the child was under the care of a relative, but her parents were also in the home at the time.
No charges have been filed in the case so far. Deputies said there's a chance the child was sleeping with an adult and was smothered by accident.
