CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to extend their pause on applications to build data centers.
A 30-day moratorium passed in July, with county officials saying from the get-go they wanted to revisit it and planned to extend it in August.

On Tuesday, the commissioners voted to add 180 days to the data center moratorium.
As Channel 2 Action News reported in July, commission members wanted the moratorium to give county staff time to research and develop a specific set of regulations for data center development in Cherokee County.
Currently, the county does not have a dedicated ordinance for data centers and there are no pending applications for such facilities.
