CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County grand jury has indicted a former police officer allegedly seen on cellphone video assaulting a man moving into his new home.
Former Clayton County police officer Ryan Hall was fired by the department after cell phone video proved he lied on a police report.
Police officers received a call of a burglary in progress in May 2014. It was later determined that it was just Dhoruba Bin-Wahad, 69, moving into a new home.
Hall claimed in his police report that Bin-Wahad was uncooperative.
Cellphone footage contradicting Hall's report led to an internal investigation. The video shows Hall slamming Binwahad to the ground.
"They can watch the video and see that he was brutalized," attorney Mawuli Davis said.
Hall is facing a simple battery charge, and his bond was set at $2,000.
"I don't think he understands the full significance of what he did, and he probably believes in his mind that he was right," Bin-Wahad said.
