Cobb Pkwy near Akers Mill reopened after bomb threat

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb Parkway at Riverwood Parkway and Akers Mill Road has been reopened after police closed the busy area to investigate a bomb threat at an AT&T store.

The incident happened at the AT&T inside the Cumberland Festival Shopping Center on Cobb Parkway.

Police said a disgruntled customer carrying a backpack came into the store about 3:45 p.m. The customer exchanged words with employees, claiming he had a bomb in his backpack. Channel 2's Ross Cavitt said chaos erupted before a police bomb squad was called to the scene.

News Chopper 2's Jason Durden saw the bomb squad arrive about 4:45 p.m.and evacuate the business.

The bomb squad removed the backpack from the store and blew it up shortly after. There was no bomb inside.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The ordeal forced area commuters to take detours during Wednesday's rush hour, causing backups on surrounding roads.
