ATLANTA — Heavy rain and thunderstorms moved through parts of metro Atlanta just before noon and more storms are firing up this afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Spalding, Meriwether and Pike counties until 4:30 p.m.
Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls said we’ll deal with typical summer-time afternoon showers today.

What you need to know:
- There is frequent lightning with these storms.
- Some storms have wind gusts of 40 mph.
- More storms expected to pop up later this afternoon
- Cristobal weakens to a tropical depression but expected to re-strengthen to a tropical storm. No impact to north Georgia.
