ATLANTA,None — A Sandy Springs pawn shop owner who was beaten while his family was tied up during a home invasion told Channel Action News he's thankful the final suspect in the case has been sentenced.
"I think that justice was well served," he told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik.
In January 2009, prosecutors say James Marino and Rueben Allen beat Arthur Rappaport with a gun and tied up his family with plastic zip ties inside their Horseshoe Bend subdivision home in Roswell looking for cash.
"Until you experience it, you cannot understand it," he said of the violent attack.
Marino pleaded guilty to the charges in July 2009 and is serving a 15-year sentence. Investigators said a former business associate of Rappoport's, James Kaye, orchestrated the attack but didn't take part in it. Kaye was sentenced to 20 years in prison a few years ago.
This week, a final suspect in the case, Rueben Allen, of Sandy Springs, was convicted in the case and a judge sentenced him to life in prison, plus 20 years. He is not eligible for parole.
"It's been rough," said Rappaport. "But I will say we've managed to get through everything and this is putting a final touch on everything."
