Suspects in Buckhead home invasion, cop shooting have criminal history

ATLANTA — One of two suspects arrested in connection with the shooting of an Atlanta police officer appeared in court Monday morning.

We’re working to learn more about the officer injured in the shooting for Channel 2 Action News starting at 4.

Atlanta police said a gunman shot an officer in the abdomen about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after he responded to a home invasion call at the Allure at Brookwood apartments on Peachtree Valley Road.

Police said Antonio Bell and Michael Thomas kicked in a door at an apartment on Saturday afternoon.

The resident called police to say that someone was attempting to break in.

The first responding officer saw that the door had been kicked in, and he was shot in the hallway as he arrived, according to police.

The officer fired back and shot Thomas at least twice.

Police said the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest, which they credit with saving his life.
