ATLANTA — Georgia has hit another grim milestone in the fight against COVID-19.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, 10,035 people have died from the virus as of Wednesday.
The state reported more than 5.5 million people have been tested for the virus since it was first reported in the state in March.

On Tuesday, the state announced that a new variant of COVID-19 first found in Europe has been discovered in Georgia.
The variant was found in an 18-year-old man with no history of travel. He is currently isolating at home.
Health officials are working to identify the teen’s close contacts and will monitor them closely and test them for the variant.
