ATLANTA — Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday to mark the shooting that happened there one year ago.
On Aug. 8, 2025, a gunman opened fire on the CDC building. The suspect killed DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose and traumatized CDC employees who took cover during the shooting.

The gunman, identified as Patrick Joseph White, 30, of Kennesaw, fired hundreds of rounds at the CDC building. Police later found White dead from a gunshot wound at the CVS pharmacy across the street.

Kennedy took part in a private ceremony to commemorate the anniversary on Friday, with members of Ofc. Rose’s family also in attendance.
A new plaque honoring Rose was also placed at the current memorial honoring him.
A portion of the road in front of the CDC is being renamed in Rose’s honor.
Following the ceremony, Kennedy was expected to hold a fireside chat with employees at the CDC.
