WASHINGTON — On his first day in the White House for his second term, President Donald Trump announced he’d be removing more than 1,000 appointees from their positions, all hired under the administration of former Pres. Joe Biden.

Among the thousand employees affected, the president singled out former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in her role on the President’s Export Council, telling her in a post on Truth Social “YOU’RE FIRED!”

“Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote.

However, Bottoms released a statement Tuesday morning saying she resigned days ago:

“A day late and a dollar short….My resignation from the President’s Export Council was submitted January 4, effective yesterday. You can’t fire someone who has already resigned. Of all of the things happening in the world, not sure why I am on Donald Trump’s mind at 1:30 am following his Inauguration, but I count it as a badge of honor. I do hope that his attention to detail will be much more keen when it comes to world affairs. There are real issues that need attention across the globe. No matter how you voted, I think we can all agree that targeting me, along with a man who is feeding displaced people in Los Angeles and a decorated military General in the early morning hours via social media is not the best use of time for the President of the United States.”

Andres also contested the president’s version of events, saying in part:

“I submitted my resignation last week…my two-year term was already up. I was honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. My fellow council members - unpaid volunteers like me - were hardworking, talented people who inspired me every day.”

His statement went further, adding a prayer, saying “May God give you the wisdom, Mr. President, to put politics and name calling aside…and instead lift up the everyday people working to bring America together. Let’s build longer tables…”
