ATLANTA — Workers at a Norfolk Southern rail yard in Cobb County say they are shaken and concerned about their safety after a co-worker was shot and killed in what investigators describe as a targeted attack.
The victim has been identified as Curdravious Clark, 27, a father of two.
Co-workers told Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell that Clark was arriving for work Monday night when he was ambushed in the employee parking lot outside the rail terminal in Austell.
“My condolences to his family. Nobody deserves to lose their life in that manner,” one co-worker said.
Several employees who worked with Clark described him as a devoted father and a well-liked colleague.
“He was a good person, a good cool young dude, took care of his kids, was a family person. I really feel trauma, like just heartbroken right now,” a co-worker said.
Workers said Clark never had a chance to start his shift.
A witness provided a photo showing the passenger-side window of the truck Clark was riding in shattered by gunfire. According to co-workers, Clark had just arrived at work and was sitting in the passenger seat when the shooting happened.
“It just happened quick in the parking lot,” one witness said. “He was just laying on the ground.”
Police say the gunman fled the scene in a vehicle. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted.

“It was really just a shock for it to happen at work,” another employee said.
In the aftermath of the killing, workers say they are worried about security at the rail yard and have raised concerns about lighting and surveillance in the employee parking area.
“There’s no lights out there, no cameras out there. It be very pitch black,” one worker said. “People are very not safe. Even the older people at the job, they don’t feel comfortable and safe there right now.”
Channel 2 Action News asked Norfolk Southern about those concerns.
A company representative said the railroad extends its deepest sympathies to Clark’s family and friends.
The company said its “hearts are heavy with the loss of their colleague.”
Norfolk Southern sent Newell more information about the incident, saying:
- In addition to close partnerships with local police across our 22-state network, Norfolk Southern also employs its own specialized police force, Norfolk Southern Police Department
- NSPD has increased on-site presence at our Austell terminal in light of last night’s incident
- At all locations, employees, contractors and visitors are encouraged to report any suspicious activity they see
- As a reminder, the incident itself took place in the parking lot
- Norfolk Southern and our on-site contractor there have each made counseling, guidance, and other support services available to our respective employees.
Police have not announced any arrests, and the investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
