ATLANTA — The life of a woman killed in a mass shooting in midtown Atlanta will be celebrated Friday afternoon.

On May 3, 38-year-old Amy St. Pierre was shot to death inside a doctor’s office on West Peachtree Street after a man who was also a patient there opened fire.

The suspect accused of opening fire that day, 24-year-old Deion Patterson, was arrested in Cobb County after an hours-long manhunt paralyzed the city.

According to her obituary, St. Pierre dedicated her life to improving the world. She had many causes and organizations she donated her time and money that were all rooted in her commitment to be of service.

“She was an optimist who believed that everyone deserved the opportunities she was afforded in life, most importantly a safe living environment and access to a good education,” the obituary said. “She felt an obligation to society to do her part and was an incredibly generous giver.”

After graduating with honors from Emory University, St. Pierre worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She worked on such projects as supporting the global implementation of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and maternal health.

She met her husband Julian at ‘The Local,’ an Atlanta dive bar, and they were married in 2014. The couple then had two children, Lydia and Louis.

In tribute to St. Pierre, the Pacific Island Health Officers Association will name their new Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Fellowship program in her honor, the Amy St. Pierre Maternal and Child Health Fellowship.
