Major resurfacing project to start on Downtown Connector

ATLANTA — Drivers on the Downtown Connector will see construction crews in action as a major paving project takes place over the next few months.

The $13.8 million project involves scraping off the top layers of the pavement and resurfacing it. The construction will cover 6 miles of Interstate 75/85 from University Avenue to Brookwood.

It will be the first time the highway will be repaved since 2008.

“The more than 400,000 people driving on it daily feel the burn, feel potholes and all of that. We’re going to be taking off the top layer and resurfacing,” said Carlene Barron, with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The project will start in about a month with ramp closures beginning at University Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

GDOT said if your exit or entrance ramp is closed, go to the next one. %
