Irgens was heading to Dallas from Atlanta when she saw flames and smoke just rows ahead of her on the plane.

“I just saw the smoke first, and then it all happened really fast,” Irgens said. “He was trying to get it away form him into the aisle.”

The Federal Aviation Administration said flight attendants were able to contain the fire in a thermal containment bag.

Irgens told GMA that multiple passengers worked together trying to put the fire out, and some were injured.

“There were two individuals that had their hands in bags of ice and they were, you know, shaking visibly, just very, like, shocked,” Irgens said.

On a recording from the conversation between Air Traffic Control and pilots on the flight, four to five passengers were potentially burned by the laptop.

American Airlines said in a statement on Saturday that one person was treated on scene and released.
