Georgia Supreme Court upholds 6-week abortion ban, both sides sound off

ATLANTA — The Georgia Supreme Court ruled to uphold Georgia’s abortion bill, banning it for any woman who is past 6 weeks of pregnancy.

She said Tuesday’s ruling by the Supreme Court, to uphold the 6-week abortion ban, is an attack on women.

“Most people can envision a circumstance in which they think abortion would be appropriate. So the question is when? Who decides?” Young said. “I have a daughter and a granddaughter and it’s very disturbing that they now have fewer rights in Georgia than I did growing up there.”

But people like Gov. Brian Kemp and the Director of Faith and Freedom Coalition, Mack Parnell, believe the Supreme Court did the right thing.

“The ruling today is a great win for the life movement for families all across Georgia,” Parnell said.

He went on to say he realizes Georgia needs more resources for the women who end up having to make a life-changing decision like abortion.

He also knows that this issue is now going back to the Fulton County Superior Court where a judge already ruled this abortion law unconstitutional.

So what he calls a victory, may not last long.

“And so a few more months of years of battling is not something we’re gonna shy away from. Providing resources to women in these circumstances is important,” Parnell said.

Fernandes also interviewed a professor from Georgia State University and he said that this is act one of a two-part play. He said there will be plenty of litigation going forward.
