Evicted tenant leaves yard full of mess

ATLANTA — People in one Atlanta neighborhood say they're tired of looking at a yard full of garbage left by an evicted tenant.

Joy Johnson says she's been waking up next to a property covered in garbage for about a week and a half.

"With the rain and the heat, it just gets worse and worse every day," Joy Johnson said.

The moldy mattresses, crusty clothes and forgotten furniture covers just about every inch of the front yard on Dill Avenue.%

"Eventually it could definitely be a real health issue if not already," Joy Johnson said.

Neighbors told Channel 2's Matt Johnson the ex-tenant left his old belongings out in the open for anyone to look through.

According to Joy Johnson, people have done just that.

"Some people would walk up into our driveway to see in the back of the house. It didn't feel great to have people just hanging out," Joy Johnson said.

Joy Johnson says she contacted the city in hopes of getting it cleaned up, but she hasn't heard when or if that's going to happen.

Robby Caban lives in the Capitol View neighborhood and says this mess sends the wrong message to visitors.

"Obviously it doesn't look good for the city to have something like this sitting around for a long time," Johnson said. "Why not mandate that this is illegal and that this has to be boxed up?"

Property records link the blighted home to an investment company in New York.
