Christians in Georgia and around the world celebrate Easter weekend

ATLANTA — It is the holiest of weekends for Christians in Georgia and around the world. Churches across our state, held ‘Good Friday’ service ahead of Easter Sunday.

There were songs of celebration and praise of jubilation. It is all a part of the ‘Good Friday’ service inside New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest.

Friday night, they celebrated the holiday known as ‘Good Friday.’ It is the day where Christians like Tiffany Boone believe Jesus Christ died on the cross, just days before he resurrected.

“Listen, the Saints say, ‘He Got up.’ He Got Up. That is what it means to me. I am a church girl. When I think about Resurrection, He got up so that I am able to do what I’m doing today,” New Birth Minister of Music Boone said.

Musician and pastor Bishop William Murphy III with the Dream Center Atlanta echoed that message.

“This is the foundation of our faith, that when life gets bad, if you make a decision to live by faith, it can get really good, really quickly,” he said.

Bishop Jamal Bryant of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church said the last few years have been tough for our country. That is why this weekend is a reminder that there’s hope.

“Resurrection is an announcement, is a direction, it is a declaration-get up from whatever is killing you. Get up from whatever you think is taking your life. Get up from whatever it is that people are underestimating you about. What Jesus did in that tomb is the example for all of us who are struggling just to breathe.”

New Birth is also feeding 1,000 families, Saturday morning and giving away 1,000 tablets to students in need. It starts at 10 a.m. at Sam’s Club in Stonecrest.
