ATLANTA — Police are searching for two gunmen who they say shot a store clerk during an attempted robbery.
The shooting happened at the Donnelly Food Store on Donnelly Avenue in southwest Atlanta late Monday evening.
Donnelly food store is a family-owned business and neighbors were shocked by what happened.
They told Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus they call the victim Papa or Dad.
Atlanta police say they got the call around 8:40 p.m. of a man shot during an attempted business robbery.
Paramedics took a store clerk to Grady Memorial Hospital. He was alert, conscious and breathing at the time.
"It shouldn't have been him. Some things shouldn't happen," one witness told Klaus.

"For this to happen, it's really sad," another witness told Klaus. "It's like a family member to us that has gotten hurt, and we pray by God's grace that he will pull through."
Investigators said the two masked suspects ran away, after the shooting.
Police say one male wore a red hoodie with white writing and gray pants. The other had on a maroon hoodie with camouflage pants, a backpack and a black hat.
Police say the shooting is still a very active investigation.
