2 Georgia State Patrol troopers injured after being hit by suspected DUI driver, motorcycle

ATLANTA — Two Georgia State Patrol troopers were injured after they were struck on Interstate 75 by a suspected DUI driver and a motorcycle, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Troopers said the incident happened around 1:55 a.m. on I-75 at the ramp to I-85 north. A trooper and a Motor Carrier Compliance Division officer were working in a construction zone, and were both stopped with their emergency lights flashing while blocking the road.

A Hyundai Accent hit the GSP car and then sideswiped the MCCD vehicle. The driver, who is suspected of DUI, was taken to the hospital. The trooper was injured but refused to be taken to the hospital.

While officers were investigating the crash, another trooper’s car that responded to assist was hit by a motorcyclist. That trooper was also hurt but did not go to the hospital. The motorcyclist was also taken to the hospital.

Neither the troopers or the drivers have been identified. It’s unclear if the drivers of either vehicle will be charged.
