ATLANTA — A busy road in northwest Atlanta is closed due to a natural gas leak Saturday morning.
Firefighters are at Collier Road and Northside Drive as crews work to repair the leak.
An Atlanta Fire captain says around 4 a.m., a road crew digging to install new water pipes hit a natural gas pipeline on Northside Drive.
Firefighters say it started leaking 3-4 feet under the roadway. A hazmat team has been monitoring the issue for hours. It says their readings are normal outside of the immediate leak zone, so they haven't evacuated any neighbors.
Atlanta Gas Light showed up on scene around 5:30 a.m. to repair the pipe.
The roads are currently closed in all four directions from the intersection of Northside Drive and Collier Road by about a block.
It is not yet known when the leak will be repaired.
