4 firefighters sent to the hospital after wreck with tractor-trailer

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a wreck involving a fire truck and a tractor-trailer that sent four firefighters to the hospital, one of whom was airlifted.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Old Dixie and Central Avenue.

Investigators said the tractor-trailer was attempting to make a left turn when the fire truck, with lights and sirens on, hit the tractor trailer from the rear.

Truck driver Ronald Brown said he never saw or heard the fire truck as he turned left onto Central Avenue.

"I had the green light. It's as simple as that," Brown said.

Several witnesses said they heard the fire truck's sirens and the impact.

Four firefighters were transported to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. One of the six was airlifted.The fire department said three of the firefighters have been released from the hospital and one remains for observation.

Brown suffered minor injuries to his leg and neck

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, but no charges have been filed.
