54-year-old woman dies after crash with tanker truck carrying carbon dioxide on GA-400, police say

A 54-year-old woman is dead after officials said a car she was in hit a tanker truck carrying carbon dioxide on GA-400 south on Monday.

Police responded to the area near exits 14 and 13 around 8:25 a.m. after reports of a crash.

According to officials, a 2016 HINO single tanker unit carrying compressed carbon dioxide as well as several carbon dioxide containers was traveling southbound in the outside lane and a 2016 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound in the middle lane.

The Elantra failed to maintain its lane and crossed over into the right lane, striking the tanker truck. Both vehicles went off the road and flipped.

The driver of the Elantra and the driver of the tanker truck were taken to the hospital.

The passenger in the Elantra, Sharon Hall had to be pulled from the vehicle and was airlifted to a local trauma center, where she died from her injuries.
