5-year-old dies, 2 others hurt after shooting in west GA

AMERICUS, Ga. — A five-year-old has died and two others were injured after being shot Saturday night, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Around 8:30 p.m., Americus police responded to the 600 block of Eastview Circle after receiving a shots fired call.

When officers arrived, they found multiple victims with gunshot wounds.

The GBI said five-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts, of Americus, died after being taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital.

A 19-year-old man was also taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital before being transported to another hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A third victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities were not released.

No arrests have been made at this time. GBI agents are conducting interviews with witnesses as authorities work to learn what led up to the shooting.
