Thousands of flags placed at high school for 9/11 memorial

Milton High School is honoring the lives lost on 9/11 with a stunning memorial on a field at the school.
More than 100 students, parents and firefighters spent Thursday afternoon placing nearly 3,000 flags at the memorial, one for each person who died that day. Each flag has a victim’s name attached.
“We have a lot of parent involvement here, and the principal.  There's a lot of effort that goes into it and a lot of kids encouraged to volunteer to come out here and be part of this,” said senior Savannah Bailey, who organized the event.
This is the ninth year of Milton’s Sept. 11 display.
“Certain families and people have come up to me letting me know how much this has meant to them.  That's made all of the work worthwhile,” Bailey said.
Bailey’s brother supervised the tradition for years before passing it along to her.
“We like to give back to the community in all possible ways,” she said.
On Friday morning, there was a short memorial service at the school to commemorate the lives lost in the attack.
“It really hits me every year of how many people there were, and each flag being a certain person. It impacts you more than you would think it would,” Bailey said.
Cambridge High School also set up its Never Forget Memorial on Thursday, placing the same number of flags on the school’s front lawn.
Cambridge says the entire community is invited to visit the memorial throughout the day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives.
