ATLANTA — At least one person has died as a result of freezing temperatures across the state, according to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.

Stallings says a “critical needs patient” got hypothermia on Monday night and died. He did not clarify where that person lived or what led up to his or her death.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says temperatures will stay near or below freezing for the next several days.
Stallings went on to ask Georgians to give them space to work, making sure roads are treated and safe for drivers.

Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry confirmed that crews have been working since Sunday to make sure most of the interstates and heavily-trafficked roads are pretreated.
Because the latest forecasts show heavier snowfall in central and south Georgia, tankers are being repositioned further south before the winter storm moves into the state.
