The Georgia Department of Transportation launched its first online real estate surplus auction platform last Saturday, offering about 200 property parcels for sale.
The new digital marketplace features land opportunities ranging from small remnant tracts to 17-acre development sites.
The department transitioned these auctions to an online format to increase public awareness and accessibility for surplus property across the state.
The current inventory includes varied parcel sizes, wetland mitigated sites and irregular tracts located in multiple counties.
Available properties in the current inventory range in size from 0.05 to 17 acres.
Assistant State Right of Way Administrator Katrina Anderson said the digital shift allows the department to reach more potential buyers. Anderson oversees right-of-way operations for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
“Moving our surplus real estate auctions online helps us reach a much broader audience and ensures that more people have the opportunity to learn about and participate in these sales,” Anderson said. “The new platform provides a convenient and transparent way that makes it easier for interested buyers to access information, research properties and engage in the auction process from wherever they are.”
Auctions opened on Aug. 1 include:
- GEP-135-250 – Gwinnett County - West side of SR20 between Henry Bailey Road and Cumming Hwy - Auction opens August 1, 2026
- GEP-139-100, GEP-139-101, GEP-139-102, GEP-139-116, GEP-139-117 (Combined parcels) – Hall County - West side of U.S. 129 and between Barrett Road and Squires Road -Auction opens August 1, 2026
- GEP-135-322 - East side of State Route 20 south of The Circle at Fox Hollow cul-de-sac - Auction opens August 1, 2026
The Georgia Department of Transportation expects to offer about 100 more surplus parcels in future online auctions.
