20 pounds of meth seized from Georgia home after year-long investigation

JASPER COUNTY, Ga. — Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said deputies seized about 20 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested a man Aug. 5 following a year-long narcotics investigation.

The drugs were recovered during a search at a residence in Mansfield, authorities said.

The seized methamphetamine has an estimated street value of up to $600,000.

Christopher Lee Carte was taken into custody during the operation.

The 12-month investigation ended with a traffic stop and a house search that followed.

At about 9:21 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle and seized about 164 grams of methamphetamine. This stop led investigators to a residence in the area.

After the traffic stop, deputies proceeded to a home on Doc Lane in Mansfield. The Georgia Department of Community Supervision assisted Jasper County deputies in executing the search at the residence.

During this portion of the operation, deputies recovered about 20 pounds of methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials also seized other items from the residence, including a substantial amount of marijuana and U.S. currency, as well as multiple firearms. A substantial amount of was also seized at the scene.

Further investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office indicates that the seized narcotics are connected to criminal organizations involved in narcotics trafficking. Authorities said the activities are believed to be associated with narco-terrorism.

Carte faces multiple felony charges following the seizure. He was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Carte was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation remains active. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office stated that additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.
