Meteorologist Katie Walls: 5 things you didn't know about me

ATLANTA — Meteorologist Katie Walls came to WSB-TV in June as a new member of Severe Weather Team 2. Katie joins Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns, Meteorologist Karen Minton, Meteorologist Brad Nitz and Meteorologist Brian Monahan, who arrived this month.

Katie put together five interesting things about herself, so you can get to know her better:

1)      While attending Florida State University for my B.S. in meteorology, I was in the Florida State Flying High Circus! FSU has one of two collegiate, three-ring circuses.  I performed Bike for Five, Double Trapeze and Fire Poi.

2)      Following Florida State, I went to Penn State for my master's in meteorology, where I met Brian Monahan! He and I not only have our Master's degrees from Penn State, we also worked at the same station in southwest Florida, WINK.

3)      While working for WINK, I did an underwater dive series, featuring southwest Florida dive sites. I helped hang an underwater art exhibit on the U.S.S. Mohawk CGC, scuttled 30 miles off Fort Myers Beach in 90 feet of water.

4)      I have four diving certifications: Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Nitrox and Dry Suit. I once did a dive on New Year’s Day in southern Illinois in 40 degree water (hence the importance of a dry suit!)

5)      During high school and college, I spent two semesters in France and one in Spain. I speak French semi-proficiently, Spanish not so much.
