Inmate found inside east Georgia jail unresponsive. He died a day later.

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate has died inside of the Chatham County jail, Channel 2 Action News has learned.

At the request of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating the inmate’s death.

On Wednesday, around 6 p.m., 24-year-old Marquan Nazarus Bryant was found unresponsive in his jail cell.

Jail officers and first responders provided medical treatment and took Bryant to a local hospital, where he was placed on life support, the GBI said.

However, on Thursday, Bryant was taken off of life support and pronounced dead by medical staff.

An autopsy will be done by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.

Officials say once their investigation is complete, the case file will be give to the Eastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
