Dog Recovering After Stowing Away In Tractor-Trailer

DULUTH, Ga.,None — A stray dog is recovering at the Lawrenceville Suwanee Animal Hospital after officers say it stowed away in a tractor-trailer.

The truck driver was making a delivery on July 19, to a business in Duluth when the dog ran out of the back of the trailer, according to investigators.

Officials said the truck driver made his last pick up in Denmark, S.C. two days earlier and believed that is where the dog came from.

The driver told investigators the trailer was not air conditioned and the temperature gets to more than 100 degrees inside.

Officials said the dog was severely dehydrated and hungry, and was barely able to stand.

Police said the dog did not have a collar or a microchip for tracking.

Animal officials took the dog to the Lawrenceville Suwanee Animal Hospital where the staff has been taken care of her.

Workers at the hospital have named the dog Carolina. They said she is very good-natured, but has few social skills.

Veterinarian doctors said Carolina tested positive for heartworm, but the animal hospital is taking care of the cost for Carolina’s treatments.

Anyone interested in adopting Carolina can call the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter at 770-339-3200.
