ATLANTA — A local district attorney announced Friday that there is evidence that a senior judge who resigned without explanation was having a sexual relationship with the public defender assigned to his courtroom.
Channel 2 Action News investigative reporter Richard Belcher broke the story that Judge Paschal English's resignation was related to questions about his relationship with the lawyer.
But Belcher said Friday's announcement was the first official confirmation. English was a longtime and well-respected judge who handled cases in a five-county circuit that stretched from Fayette County to Pike County, south of Atlanta.
He resigned in April after being questioned by an investigator from the state Judicial Qualifications Commission.
