Chaos In Buckhead: Brides On The Attack At Filene's Basement

ATLANTA, Ga.,None — Hundreds of brides packed Buckhead on Friday morning for the Running of the Brides.

The Running of the Brides is an event that Filene's Basement hosts at their locations across the country. The retailer brings in thousands of wedding dresses for each one-day event and drastically reduces the prices. Dresses that cost as much as $9,000 are available for $249, $499 and $699.

The trick, is getting one of the dresses.

Hundreds of brides brought along thousands of friends and family members to create the Running of the Brides in Buckhead. When the doors opened at 8 a.m. Friday, all those gathered in line sprinted toward the wedding dress racks.

The dresses are not sorted by sizes, styles or designers. They are placed on the racks at random. So, when everyone ran in, they grabbed as many dresses as possible. Nearly 2,000 dresses were gone from the racks in less than 60 seconds.

The brides that had dresses tried them on. The dresses that didn't fit were passed on to other people in the group looking for trades.

Groups at the front of the line collected dozens of dresses during the stampede. Virtually all of them spent Thursday night outside the store.

As the brides-to-be found their perfect dress, the rest of their stash was shared among some of the brides that were shut out during the Running of the Brides.

By late morning, hundreds of the dresses were returned to the racks and available for the rest of the day.
