Carjacking Suspect Arrested In Prostitution Sting

MARIETTA, Ga. — Police have arrested a Marietta man after they say he ambushed and carjacked a woman and her child at a Target store in Marietta earlier in the month.

Detectives have arrested Sly Deon Sampson, 34. They say Sampson was found in Hillsborough County, Fla, where is currently being held.

Investigators say a woman was removing her child from the back seat of her car at the Target store in Marietta when Sampson ordered her to get back inside.

The woman, carrying her child, slid back into the passenger's side as Sampson stood close behind, police say.

But she climbed over to the other side of the car and exited out of the driver's side, police say.

Detectives say Sampson then took off without the victims in their blue Chevrolet Tahoe.

Investigators say within an hour of the carjacking, the victim's credit cards were being used to post adult entertainment escort services in the Atlanta area on BackPage.com.

Police say they were familiar with the woman featured in the posts, Ahlai Woodward, who is a known prostitute and associate of Sampson's.

On Wednesday, investigators say they pulled over a stolen Chevy Tahoe in Hillsborough County, Fla.

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office say the driver, Everton McCoy, 23, of Marietta, ran from the car and was arrested a short time later.

Woodward was also in the car at the time, according to investigators, and was detained and released.

Detectives said shortly after that, Woodward posted another adult ad on BackPage.com, this time saying she was in Tampa.

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and detectives with the Marietta police coordinated a prostitution sting using the information from Woodward's latest post and arrested both Woodward and Sampson during the sting.

Sampson has been charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to child, robbery, false imprisonment and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

Police say Sampson is awaiting extradition to Marietta.

There is no word on any charges for Woodward or McCoy at this point.
