2 Men Shot With AK-47 At Atlanta Apartment

ATLANTA — Atlanta police said one man is dead and another was injured when several men opened fire at the Forest Cove Apartments in southeast Atlanta Monday night.

Police said the gunmen used an AK-47 assault rifle to settle a dispute.

Maj. Keith Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department said an argument triggered the deadly shooting.

"We have not been able to determine the nature of that argument itself, however we do have information that suggested the victims and the suspects in this case have had an ongoing dispute with one another for quite some time," said Meadows.

SLIDESHOW: Deadly Double Shooting Crime Scene

Detectives are looking into the possibility that those involved may have had a violent confrontation over the weekend.

"There was another shooting incident that occurred in the apartment complex but we have not been able to draw a connection between that particular shooting and this incident at this point," said Meadows.

The shooting Monday night happened in front of several people. Detectives said the gunmen used two weapons.

"One of them, we believe, was an assault rifle and the other was a 9 mm handgun," said Meadows.

Witnesses to the shooting gave police some strong leads, officials said.

Police have not released the names of the victims, but said both are in their 20s.

The injured man suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. He is in stable condition.

Police continue to look for the shooters.
