Cold front brings cool temperatures ahead of weekend warm-up

ATLANTA — The second expected cold front pushed through overnight bringing the morning low to 59 degrees in Atlanta.

Thursday morning was the coolest since the end of May.

Severe Weather Team 2 says Friday morning will be even cooler, with widespread lower 50s and mid-to-upper 40s in northwest Georgia and the mountains.

As we move into the weekend, afternoon highs will warm into the low-to-mid 80s, but morning lows remain cool in the 50s and low 60s.

Humidity will stay low with lots of sunshine.

Tropical update

Matthew strengthened to a hurricane Thursday afternoon.

It continues its westward progression through the Caribbean.

Severe Weather Team 2 says it is forecast to intensify into a Category 2 hurricane by Monday morning.

The storm is expected to directly impact Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas, with heavy rain, high surf and flooding to be the main concern.

It does not appear that Georgia will be directly impacted. The Carolinas could be impacted as the storm may skirt the Outer Banks.
