Woman, Dad Accused Of Beating 2 Children

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County Police Department officials said a Marietta woman and a father are responsible for the beating of two children – landing both of the children in the hospital.

According to investigators, a 2-year-old boy was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital by his mother Monday afternoon. Police said the boy was suffering from "substantial external and internal injuries." The child was immediately flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where he was admitted for treatement.

During the investigation, detectives also located a 4-year-old girl at her home who was also suffering from current injuries as well as injuries she sustained in the past, police said. The girl was treated at WellStar Cobb Hospital and released to the Department of Family and Children Services.

Police arrested Shannon Nicole McDowell, 26, and charged her with cruelty to children in the 1st degree, cruelty to children in the 2nd degree, contributing to the deprivation of a minor and making false statements. She is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Detectives secured warrants for the children's biological father, identified as Damon Earl Jennings, 29, of Marietta. The warrants include cruelty to children in the 1st degree and cruelty to children in the 2nd degree. Police continue to search for Jennings and police said caution should be used if he is approached.
