USPS to feature ‘Star Wars’ droids on upcoming stamp release

‘Star Wars’ droids to be featured on upcoming stamp release

The force will be strong with the U.S. Postal Service later this year.

Postal officials announced Tuesday that it will be releasing a series of Forever stamps based on the droids from “a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away.”

The stamps, designed by Greg Breeding and with William Gicker as art director, will feature the following droids from not only the films, but also the animated shows:

  • R2-D2
  • C-3PO
  • BB-8
  • K-2SO
  • IG-11
  • D-O
  • L3-37
  • Gonk droid
  • 2-1B surgical droid
  • Chopper

The stamps are expected to be available in the spring.

Lucasfilm, the original studio behind the legendary film and now television franchise, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2021.

The USPS said of the release: “These set of droids are a nod to Lucasfilm’s, as well as its parent company, Disney’s, commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning and the continued collaboration between “Star Wars: Force for Change” and global pre-K-12 nonprofit organization “FIRST” (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).”
