WICHITA, Kan. — A piece of lumber missed a teen’s head by inches after it impaled her windshield driving home from school on Tuesday.
According to KWCH, Michael Jones saw the shaken teen on the side of the road and pulled over to help. He said the wooden board was about 14 inches wide and had pierced the windshield just under the rearview mirror.
“It went right through her rear view mirror, which in a Jeep, isn’t far from your head,” a man who stopped to help the shaken, but uninjured 18-year-old said. https://t.co/lBwy9nqdYb

Jones told KWCH and KMBC that the unidentified 18-year-old was upset following the incident.
“Saw her Jeep as it was just stopping on the side of the road. (She) was pretty stressed out, so I tried to calm her down. I drive a Hummer, so I started talking to her about the fight we have between Jeeps and Hummers, trying to calm her down, just to get her mind off of it for a second,” Jones told KMBC.
It’s unclear where the board came from, but when describing the incident, the driver said a car in front of her swerved, and suddenly a piece of wood flew into her windshield.
Jones said that the driver deserves praise for maintaining control of her vehicle at high speed and bringing it safely to a stop on the side of the road.
“I mean, you could just imagine something smashing in your windshield when you’re doing 55 miles per hour. It’s not even something you can see coming. It just happens so fast. She did a really good job, and then afterward, she kept her composure. She was stressed, you could see. You could see the stress in her, but she kept her composure and did really well,” Jones told KWCH.
Jones also said he was disturbed by the number of people who took pictures instead of stopping to help.
