Recall alert: Honda recalls 1.4M vehicles for three separate issues

Honda has announced the recall of more than 1.4 million vehicles for three issues.

The automaker said that there is a software flaw in some vehicles, while others have issues with window switches. Select vehicles are also being recalled due to a drive shaft that could break, The Associated Press reported.

Software recall

The software recall involves 737,000 Accords that were built from 2018 to 2020, and Insights built in 2019 and 2020. A glitch in a control computer can cause the rear camera, turn signals and windshield wipers to malfunction. Owners will be notified in January if their car is affected, and will be told what steps to take.

Drive shaft recall

There are two drive shaft recalls affecting a variety of models covering 430,000 vehicles, including:

• 2012 Honda Civic Hybrids
• 2007-2014 Honda Fit
• 2013-2015 Acura ILX
• 2013-2015 Honda Accord

The cars are located in states where salt is used for winter road treatment. The drive shafts can become corroded and break. They will be inspected and replaced as needed. Owners can expect to be notified in February and told what steps to take, the AP reported.

Window switch recall

Finally, Honda has recalled about 268,000 CR-Vs built between 2002 and 2006.

Water can get into an open driver’s window and cause an electrical short and potentially a fire. This is the second recall for the issue after previous repairs did not work, the AP reported.

Notices will be mailed in January.
