Sex Offender Arrested At DeKalb Public Pool

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None — A known sex offender spent two days at a metro Atlanta public pool before being arrested.

Police arrested Robert McKenzie on Wednesday.

Decatur police told Channel 2 Action News that someone at the Glenlake Pool called police to report a suspicious person on Tuesday.

When police arrived, they met McKenzie.

Deputy Chief Keith Lee said while talking to the pool staff, his officers discovered McKenzie had visited the pool before.

"We were told at that time, there had been an incident the day before where a father said this subject touched his son. Unfortunately, we were unable to identify who this father was so we can get the particulars of what happened that day," said Lee.

Channel 2's Erica Byfield spoke to parents about McKenzie's arrest.

"I'm shocked. It's really scary when you think about a safe place for families, for children to come and to have something like that happen," said Sherry Kirby.

"We don't know how many times he's actually been to this pool, you know, if he's been watching kids longer than we know," said Monica Morgan.

McKenzie is registered as a sex offender in Fulton County. He is now in the Fulton County Jail on charges of violating his probation.
